American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)
American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act
The
President signed the American
Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 into law on Tuesday, February
17, 2009.
The
Johnson City MTPO has been allocated a little over 2.4 million dollars
from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 Funds for three
(3) Surface Transportation Projects (does not include Johnson City Transit
Projects). When considering the best use of these funds, the MTPO reviewed
existing projects in its region for eligibility, evaluated which projects
could meet the time-constraint of ARRA for completion, and which projects
would assist the local economy. This process started in November of 2008
and the final MTPO projects using ARRA funds were programmed in the Transportation
Improvement Program (TIP) on May 6th 2009. Click
here to read the TIP. It is now up to the local jurisdictions and
the Tennessee Department of Transportation to implement this project.
You may call the JC MTPO at (423) 434-6272 or email jcmpo@jcmpo.org.

be used to purchase seven (7) new buses for use in fixed route transit
operations, five (5) new small buses for use in demand response operations
(XTRA and Job Access services), four (4) new bus shelters at several locations
throughout the city, and new vehicle location system technonlogy, with
computer-aided paratransit scheduling.
